Children’s Books
Kids start learning about science in elementary school. But we often don’t start talking about science and faith in our churches until high school, if then. Why not! By getting a head start on this conversation, we can prevent the cultural narrative that tells youth they have to choose between their faith and science. There are some good books here - the Heno Head books in particular were favorites of my own back in the day - to help parents guide their children. If you know of others, please let me know by using the contact box on the “about” tab.
“God’s Extravagant Garden: A Children’s Study on Climate Justice,” published by Pat Hoerth for United Methodist Women
“God Made _____,” published by Heno Head and Happy Day Books. A great series for kids, with entries on Dinosaurs, Outer Space, the Ocean, Plants, and Animals.
“When God Made Light,” Matthew Paul Turner
“Gregor Mendel: The Friar who Grew Peas,” Cheryl Bardoe
The World Council of Churches also made a pretty sharp Climate Justice toolkit for children’s education.
